APVA Students Choose Between Two Rigorous Pathways

APVA Traditional Pathway

  • Regents or Advanced Regents Diploma
  • Chancellor’s Endorsed Arts Diploma in Theater or the Visual Arts

APVA Scholars Pathway

  • Regents or Advanced Regents Diploma
  • Chancellor’s Endorsed Arts Diploma in Theater or the Visual Arts

IN ADDITION TO:

  • AP CAPSTONE DIPLOMA (6 AP Classes including AP Research and Seminar with scores of 3 or higher on the AP exams or AP CAPSTONE CERTIFICATE (in cases where students are not able to fulfill the requirements of the diploma). For more information on the AP Capstone Diploma program, please visit: apstudents.collegeboard.org (potentially 18 college credits)
  • Introduction to Public Speaking or Theater History through QCC (3 college credits earned)

Some of the AP Courses offered: Art, Music, ELA Language and Composition, ELA Literature, French, Spanish, Psychology, Research, Seminar, Calculus, Statistics, African American History and many more!

Theatre Track

Award-Winning Theatre Track

  • Learn production, directing, writing and performing as well as technical aspects of theatre including lighting, sound and set design.
  • Students of all grade levels have opportunities to perform in different settings: plays, musicals, open mic nights,  the Winter and Spring Festival of the Arts and Thespian Show.
  • Partnership with the LeAp arts program providing an intensive playwriting residency that engages students in storytelling and creative expression.
  • APVA students have participated in competitions all over New York City including the August Wilson Monologues, National Shakespeare Competition, and LEAP’s playwriting competition.

Theatre track culminates to taking the Theatre Regents. Upon completion of 10 theatre credits and the Regents, students will earn a Chancellor's Arts Endorsed Diploma.

Art Track

Comprehensive Art Track

  • Four-year art track for advanced students
  • Portfolio 1 and 2 surround students in a broad range of media including collage, printmaking, drawing, painting and sculpture
  • Portfolio 3 and 4 expands on students’ skills sets and knowledge with opportunities to work on  large-scale projects using a broader array of materials
  • Graphic design and independent study offered during the 11th and 12th grades
  • Advanced Placement 2D Portfolio
  • Art Regents

Art track culminates to taking the Art Regents. Upon completion of 10 art credits and the Regents, students will earn a Chancellor's Arts Endorsed Diploma.

Music Track

Music Track

  • First year - Music History and Performance Level 1&2
  • Second Year - Beginning Band and Orchestra / Chorus
  • Third Year - Intermediate / Advanced Band or Orchestra / Chorus
  • Fourth Year - Intermediate / Advanced Band or Orchestra / Chorus
  • Music Electives:
  • Core Music 1&2 (Two Semesters)
  • Music Theory 1&2 (Two Semesters)
  • AP Music Theory 1&2 (Two Semesters)
  • Keyboard 1&2 (Two Semesters)
